About R3CR

Unifying cannabis research through collaboration

The Resource Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research (R3CR) is a comprehensive resource center and collaborative initiative designed to serve as a central hub for cannabis research resources and expertise.

We are a team of experts from three partner institutions: the University of Mississippi (UM), the US Pharmacopeia (USP), and Washington State University (WSU). The R3CR was established to address the longstanding challenges and barriers to cannabis research.

Our team is dedicated to providing guidance and information to help researchers navigate regulations, obtain quality research materials, and develop strong proposals. By leveraging our collective expertise and experience, we aim to generate more rigorous scientific evidence across various non-clinical and clinical research domains.

Mission Statement

The Resource Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research (R3CR) is dedicated to supporting investigators and advancing the scientific understanding of cannabis. Our mission is to serve as a comprehensive resource by providing guidance and information to address the barriers and challenges related to regulations, research materials, and proposal development. We foster rigorous scientific evidence across a variety of non-clinical and clinical research domains. The R3CR facilitates coordination of resources across the cannabis research community and regulatory agencies to help address longstanding barriers to research. Through our work, we will empower investigators and their research administrators to advance their studies and gain an improved understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices. The R3CR will be an invaluable resource to the scientific community, federal and state agencies, institutional administrators, and suppliers of research materials.

What We Do

The R3CR is structured with three core functions, each led by one of our partner institutions:

Research Support Core

Led by Washington State University, this core disseminates scientific and regulatory information, organizes workshops and webinars, and administers seed funding to foster the research of new and existing investigators. The core’s goal is to promote the widespread advancement of cannabis research by propagating guidance and resources.

Regulatory Guidance Core

Led by the University of Mississippi, this core reduces barriers to cannabis research by compiling and interpreting regulatory policies. It provides expert, up-to-date guidance on the complex web of cannabis regulations through direct communication with agencies like the FDA and DEA.

Research Standards Core

Led by the United States Pharmacopeia, this core aims to improve the reproducibility of research studies. It provides guidance on analytical procedures, investigational materials, quality standards, and best practices. The core also works with reference material providers to increase the offerings of research standards and metrics.
